Atrial tachycardia: causes, electrocardiographic features and treatment
THE CONTEXT
Atrial tachycardia may
arise from increased atrial automaticity, sinoatrial disease or digoxin toxicity.
Electrocardiographic features
•
Atrial tachycardia produces a narrow-complex tachycardia with abnormal P-wave morphology.
•
Atrioventricular block
may accompany the tachycardia when the atrial rate is rapid.
Drug response
•
Atrial tachycardia
may respond to beta-blockers, which reduce automaticity.
•
Class I or class III anti-arrhythmic drugs
may also be effective.
