Classification of anti-arrhythmic drugs
THE CONTEXT
Anti-arrhythmic drugs
can be categorised by their effects on the action potential and further classified by their molecular targets.
Classification principles
•
The traditional Vaughan Williams system categorises anti-arrhythmic drugs according to their effects on the action potential.
•
Further subclassification
is based on the cardiac ion channels and receptors on which the drugs act.
