Computed tomography in thyroid enlargement

THE CONTEXT

Computed tomography (CT) assesses the effects and extent of thyroid disease relevant to operative planning.

•

CT is the modality of choice for assessing tracheal compression and deviation; plain films were used previously.

•

When ultrasound identifies metastatic disease in the neck, CT can assist surgical planning and assess the superior mediastinum and lungs.
