Delivery of supplemental oxygen to a neonate

THE CONTEXT

The passage specifies suitable delivery devices and the minimum oxygen flow for neonatal supplemental oxygen.

•

Provide supplemental oxygen using an oxygen mask, an oxygen tube held in a cupped hand over the baby's face, or a flow-inflating bag and mask.

•

Do not use a self-inflating bag to give supplemental oxygen.

•

Maintain an oxygen flow of at least 5 L/minute.
