Eclampsia: abrupt onset and preceding features

THE CONTEXT
Eclampsia can begin abruptly, although preceding severe pre-eclampsia is common.

Pattern of onset

Eclampsia may occur abruptly without warning manifestations.
•
In over 80% of cases, it is preceded by features of severe pre-eclampsia.
