Management of aortic dilatation risk in Marfan syndrome
THE CONTEXT
Management combines preventive drug treatment, activity advice and surgery for progressive aortic dilatation.
Medical treatment and activity
•
β-blockers or ARBs should be given to all patients with Marfan syndrome because they may reduce the risk of aortic dilatation.
•
Activities associated with increases in cardiac output
are best avoided.
Surgical management
•
Aortic root replacement can be performed when aortic dilatation
is progressive.
