THE CONTEXT

In addition to its coenzyme role, NAD supplies ADP-ribose for protein modification and gives rise to compounds involved in intracellular signaling.

NAD supplies ADP-ribose for ADP-ribosylation of proteins.

It also supplies ADP-ribose for polyADP-ribosylation of nucleoproteins involved in the DNA repair mechanism.

Cyclic ADP-ribose and nicotinic acid adenine dinucleotide are formed from NAD.

•

These compounds increase intracellular calcium in response to neurotransmitters and hormones.
