Study note

Settings for cardiovascular investigations

THE CONTEXT
Cardiac investigations help establish the diagnosis and assess disease severity; the facilities required depend on the test.

Basic and specialised investigations

•
Electrocardiography, chest X-ray and echocardiography are basic investigations that can be performed in an outpatient clinic or at the bedside.
•
Cardiac catheterisation, radionuclide imaging, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are more complex procedures requiring specialised facilities.
