Surgery
The thyroid gland
Treatment options for a toxic nodule
THE CONTEXT
Both surgery and radioiodine
are appropriate treatments for a toxic nodule.
Surgery
•
Resection
is described as easy and certain, with limited morbidity.
Radioiodine
•
Radioiodine
is a good alternative for patients over 45 years of age.
•
Suppressed thyroid tissue does not take up iodine, resulting in a minimal risk of delayed thyroid insufficiency.
