Immune Response
Effect of injection site on hepatitis B vaccine immunogenicity
THE CONTEXT
For some antigens, the site of injection influences the immune response.
Site comparison and proposed explanation
•
Hepatitis B vaccine
is less immunogenic after gluteal injection than after deltoid injection.
•
This difference
may reflect a paucity of antigen-presenting cells in gluteal fat, which delays antigen presentation to T and B cells.
