Immune Response
Instructive theories of antibody production
THE CONTEXT
Instructive theories explain antibody specificity through instructions provided by the antigen to an immunocompetent cell.
Proposed mechanism
•
An immunocompetent cell
is considered capable of synthesising antibodies of any specificity.
•
The antigen encounters the cell and instructs it to produce the complementary antibody.
