Microbiology
Immune Response
Potency and systemic effects of transfer factor
THE CONTEXT
Transfer factor (TF) produces demonstrable cell-mediated immunity (
CMI
) in the recipient.
Potency and distribution
•
An extract from only 0.1 mL of packed leucocytes is sufficient for transfer.
•
The transferred CMI
is systemic rather than confined to the injection site.
Evidence of transferred immunity
•
Following TF injection, delayed hypersensitivity and various in vitro correlates of CMI can be demonstrated in the recipient.
